Family Eye Care

Annual Eye Exams

The biggest component of family eye care is the annual eye exam. The annual exam is an assessment of your eye health, including how well your eyes work together. The exam includes a visual acuity test to help identify refractive errors and a visual field test to check for blind spots in your vision. Dr. Medina may take photos of the retina and perform tests to look for specific eye conditions.

Pediatric eye care is an important part of our practice. A child's wellness involves an accurate assessment of his or her eye health and vision. Vision can deteriorate in children, and even a small refractive error left untreated can impact your child's ability to play and learn. Early diagnosis of these issues ensures your child does not skip a beat.

Conditions Treated By Our Optometrist

A variety of conditions can be detected during the early stages. With early diagnosis, we can treat these issues before they progress. Disease diagnosis is an important component of the routine eye exam. Our eye doctor will look for signs of glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, macular degeneration, and more. Some conditions are more common in children or seniors, which is why we take the time to rule out potential issues.

Some conditions are more commonly identified in children than in adults. They include strabismus, in which the eyes are not in proper alignment and appear to be crossed. We also often identify amblyopia, or a "lazy eye," in children. Children, like adults, may experience refractive errors. Myopia is known as nearsightedness. It involves poor distance vision, whereas hyperopia involves poor up-close vision. Our eye doctor will discuss options for glasses or contacts so your child can return to his or her normal activities with clear vision.
