Eyeglasses FAQs

Getting your first pair of eyeglasses? Chances are you have lots of questions about selecting and caring for the prescription eyeglasses you need. That’s why our team at Medina Eye Care in Castroville and San Antonio have put together a list of frequently asked questions to ensure you make a wise eyeglass decision.

Eyeglasses FAQs

I only need readers. Do I still have to get an eye exam?

Although reading glasses can be bought at your nearest pharmacy, our eye doctors in San Antonio recommend you schedule an eye exam before choosing the readers you need. You may have vision problems that store-bought readers can’t resolve. Eye exams also give our San Antonio and Castroville optometrists an opportunity to check your eye health for signs of hidden eye issues or diseases. Eye issues are easier to treat in their early stages. Catching eye diseases early can save you from vision loss.

How can I tell if I need eyeglasses?

Eye exams consist of tests for eye health and visual acuity. These tests will determine if refractive errors are impeding your sight. If so, we’ll write you a prescription for corrective lenses to improve your vision. At Medina Eye Care, we offer a wide range of quality prescription eyeglasses for adults and children, so you’ll have little trouble finding the eyewear you need.

What kind of eyeglasses should I get?

If you’ve never worn eyeglasses before, you’ll probably need help selecting the appropriate eyewear for your visual needs. Our eye doctors in San Antonio and Castroville will explain your options, answer your questions, and recommend eyeglasses that look good on you and suit your personal taste, budget, and lifestyle.

How often should I change my eyeglasses?

By scheduling annual eye exams, our eye doctors can let you know if you need to upgrade your eyeglasses due to a change in your vision. If you notice changes in your vision in-between visits, contact your Castroville or San Antonio optometrist for a quick checkup to see if you need a change of glasses to improve your sight. If your prescription hasn’t changed, you can always change the frames to give you a new look or better suit your needs.
