Why You May Need Eyeglasses

Most of the time, eyeglasses are prescribed because of one or more refractive errors, which include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism. In addition to these errors, there are other conditions that can benefit from eyeglasses. There may be problems with eye alignment or eye teaming, or you may have presbyopia, where aging eyes lose flexibility and make it more difficult to see close up. This is often in addition to myopia, and means that bifocal or trifocal lenses are necessary. Our eye doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam to determine if you have a condition like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration. These issues often require eye glasses.

Choosing Your Glasses

If you wear glasses, you know how important it is to choose the right ones. If your prescription is moderate or worse, chances are you are going to be wearing your glasses a lot. Selecting the right frames and lenses can make a big difference.

Choosing Lenses

Before deciding what type of lenses you need, our optometrist will perform an eye exam to determine your prescription. We can then help you choose what type of lens you what, including plastic, lightweight polycarbonate, or even newer and lighter options of Trivex or high-index plastic. Our team can determine what type of lenses are best for you.

You may also need either single vision eye glasses or multifocal glasses if more than one prescription is needed to see well at different distances.  Multifocal lenses can be made with clear lines, or they may be progressive lenses that allow for a more seamless transition at different distances.

Protection for your eyes is another thing to consider. Our optometrist may ask about computer use, or if you spend a lot of time driving or in the sun. Protections against UV rays and glare are an important part of your glasses.

Choosing Frames

Frames need to be comfortable, resilient against breaking, and work with your lifestyle. At Medina Eye Care, our staff can assist you with picking out frames that fit your budget and fashion needs. Different shaped frames complement different types of faces, so it is important to choose carefully in order to find something that will look great on you.
