Taking care of your eyes is one of the most important aspects of caring for your health. If your vision becomes compromised, it will negatively impact every aspect of your life. If you live near San Antonio, TX, and want to find an optometrist near you, our team at Medina Eye Care invites you to visit us for your next eye exam. We have been caring for clients' eye health in your area since 1983. Keep reading to learn more about what to expect at your next eye exam from our team here at Medina Eye Care.

The Start of the Visit

Before your vision check, our team will ask you about your medical history and about any symptoms you have that are related to your vision. The first set of tests you will receive will check your visual acuity, how well you can see. These tests will ask you to read letters on an eye chart, which is posted on a wall across from you. Your visual acuity level will be written as a fraction.  For example, normal vision is typically written as 20/20. After determining visual acuity, our eye doctor near you will start to look deeper at your eyes.

Testing Your Eye Health

During the next set of tests, our team will compare the size and placement of your pupils. We will measure how quickly your pupils react to light and motion. Your field of vision, including your peripheral (side) vision, will then be tested. The movements of your eye muscles will also be assessed. Our eye doctor will then test your eye coordination to determine how well your eyes work together.

Our eye doctor will also test the refraction of your eyes, which detects whether you are nearsighted or farsighted, or if the curve of your cornea is abnormal. You will be asked to look at several pairs of images and say which image you see more clearly.  The last tests performed will measure the pressure inside your eyes, and then our eye doctor will look at the inner structures inside your eyes. All these tests help to determine if there are underlying eye conditions waiting to reveal themselves. By catching these issues early, our eye doctor can treat them earlier and more effectively.
